How It Should Have Ended: Star Trek Edition

I don't know about anyone else but after seeing a movie in theatres I enjoy, I can't wait for the How It Should Have Ended video to be created and released. I previously did a best of Marvel article, and you can read it here.

The folks at HISHE have done it again, this time with the second instalment in the Star Trek reboot franchise, Star Trek Into Darkness.

They're always hilarious, because their true. The Khan scene made me laugh so hard! This is the second HISHE for Star Trek, the first was for the 2009 movie.

I love that ending. If you find yourself with some free time, check out all the videos on the HISHE channel. You will thank yourself for a long time!

Samuel L. Jackson: Elizabeth Olsen IS Scarlet Witch

For those of you who may have been lucky enough to catch this week episode of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, you may have noticed a familiar face show up at the end...the one and only Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson.

Sammy L. just recently chatted with the Wall Street Journal about his cameo, and when asked about when production is set to begin on Avengers: Age of Ultron, pretty much confirmed the rumours we've been hearing surrounding the casting of the Scarlet Witch:
“I don’t think we begin shooting before March of next year. I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen [who will play the Scarlet Witch], but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.”

Next to an official Marvel confirmation, Olsen seems to have a lock on the role of  Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlet Witch. It has previously been confirmed that Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be playing Pietro Maximoff, also known as Quicksilver.

Marvel has also hinted that we may see more cameos in AoS, which should continue to bring back fan boys and girls every week. I know I'll be back!!

You can watch Agents of SHIELD Tuesdays at 8pm EST on ABC/CTV. Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theatres on May 1st, 2015.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Episode One: A Review

We waited for months for the premiere of Marvel's shiny new show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and the time has arrived. I, along with millions of other fan boys and girls around the world, tuned in for the premiere episode of Agents (which I will refer to as AoS from now on); and while I can't speak for anyone else, I very much enjoyed it.

Before I give my review, here's some things you need to know about me:

 - I am a Marvel FANATIC. Sometimes I think fanatic doesn't do justice for my fandom love.
 - I saw each of the Phase One movies in theatre multiple times.
 - I saw The Avengers in threatre five times.
 - I met Stan Lee in the summer of 2012 and it ended with me crying and shaking like an infant.
 - I own all the Phase One movies, plus the Phase One special edition tricked out box set.
 - I have a complete Marvel encyclopedia, which has become my bible.
 - I have a blonde cat named Thor and a black cat named Loki.

I tell you all this so that you can understand how critical I will be of this show. I have ridiculously high expectations, so you'll get some honest answers.

Ok, hold on to your butts, because here we go!

WARNING: Obviously spoilers ahead. YOU ARE WARNED!

So the show begins with the classic Marvel intro (comic book pages flipping), and the excitement ensued. We hear a woman's voice speaking about the world we live in, specifically the one since the Battle of New York. Shield has left the shadows and they're known to be associated with aliens and things we can't comprehend. We see flashes of the cast of The Avengers. The episode begins with a father and son looking at an action figure re-enactment of the Battle of New York, talking about the heroes that the world now knows exist.

There's an explosion, we hear screams from the top of the building across the street that is now engulfed in flames. The father, clearly concerned about the situation, walks over the the external wall of the building. He looks at his hands sighing, and proceeds without any aides, to climb the wall to the top of the building. He finds a woman inside and jumps out of the window, landing on the road below with injury. The 'Hooded Hero', seeing that people have become interested in him, runs off into the crowd. The SHIELD logo appears on screen.

It was most definitely a fancy, eye catching intro. It was written beautifully, but having seen the intro to The Avengers, nothing is quite as good (everything will always be compared to The Avengers, at least for me). The show doesn't start off slowly, we see some awesome action scenes and some INSANELY cool tech gadgets (like a serving tray that doubles as an x-ray machine, a napkin that can read finger prints from hard surfaces and inner ear communication devices [which also explains why all the characters in Avengers seemed to be talking to no one]), but nothing overly exciting seems to happen - it just seems like all the characters are going through the motions.

We are introduced to the main cast (which is rather slow, almost a little painful with their "I have so much back story, and we'll say I have it, but we won't tell you what it is" nonsense). The characters are likable. There's the lone soldier, Agent Ward (played by Brett Dalton), the apprehensive veteran, Melinda May (played by Min-Na Wen), and science buddies, Agents Fitz and Simmons (Ian De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge) the rebellious ally, Skye (Chole Bennet) and the mysterious leader, Phil Coulson (played by Clark Gregg). The cast seems great, but their initial story lines just seem kind of boring. Except for Coulson.

We all know the story of Agent Coulson in The Avengers, and there were many references made to the circumstances surrounding his apparent "death" in the movie. There is an exchange between Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and a Doctor (played by Ron Glass) about Coulson, saying "He really doesn't know, does he?" I think the major story line that will run throughout this season will be Coulson's 'resurrection'.

So it sounds like I didn't like the show, but I was actually quite surprised by how much I enjoyed it. There were a ton of references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the Extremis virus (which ties neatly in with the release of Iron Man 3), the Erskine serum, a lot of Stark-ish technology and lot's of name dropping. We have a brand new villain, who is funding "Project Centipede." We see that there are still many remnants of the Battle of New York, including a Chitauri neural link, and, mostly importantly, there were a bunch of laughs.

The series will be written by husband/wife duo Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, with Marvel Godfather Joss Whedon helping with writing for the first episode. While there's nothing new about the structure of the show, it aims to show us what it looks like when all the big superheroes are gone and the people behind the scenes are left to pick up the pieces.

I think the timing of the series is brilliant, given Marvel's absolute domination of movie box offices around the world. I am intrigued by the series and if you're a fan, or even if you aren't familiar with the Marvel world, you may get in to this one.

The episode ended with a call on a 084. We don't know what it is, but I'll be tuning in next week to find out!

Oh, and did I mention that Lola is a freaking hover car? Yeah, that happened! :)

First Pictures of Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing

Benedict Cumberbatch is a busy guy these days. Between movies, television, voice work and the occasional stage performance, he seems to be everywhere. Having recently wrapped production on series three of Sherlock, he's moved on to his next project.

Many of you may have never heard of Alan Turing before, but he's a hugely important historical figure. In a nutshell, he was a mathematician who worked with the British government during World War II, discovering the cyphers for the German Enigma machine. He was also a gay man (homosexual acts were illegal in England at that time) - he was discovered to have taken part in them and was prosecuted; a few years later he committed suicide by taking cyanide.

Cumberbatch will be playing Turing in the upcoming film The Imitation Game, and now thanks to our friends at Buzzfeed, we have our first look.

And here's a look at what Alan Turing looked like:

The Imitation Game will hit theatres sometime in 2014. You can see Cumberbatch in another bio-pic The Fifth Estate which is out on October 18th.

Could We Be Seeing More of Agent Peggy Carter?

Agent Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell) first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger, and quickly won over fans with her no nonsense, ass kicking attitude (remember when she shot at Steve after she caught him with a lady? Exactly).

While her character was pretty much eliminated from any kind of future in future Marvel movies, she did appear in her very own one-shot (check it out below).

But could she be making an appearance on TV?

The folks at Empire have reason to believe that Marvel Studios is in fact looking at the logistics of bringing Agent Carter back in her very own show. They report that the premise of the show may pick up where the one shot left off, and would include much more of the same ass kicking.

I'm 1000% in favour of this. We'll keep our ears open for any information!

Meanwhile, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D will premiere this Tuesday at 8pm EST on ABC/CTV!

Hiddleston and Hemsworth Give Interview on Disney Channel, Tease Awesomess

We're less than 50 days away from the North American release of Thor: The Dark World, and Marvel/ Disney is beginning to ramp up its promotion.

Now that Disney owns Marvel Studios, we're getting more expose of the films through their multiple outlets (we've seen Marvel projects are D23 for the past two years). This amazing clip featuring Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth recently began airing on the Disney Channel. While no secrets are given away (obviously), it's still great!

Hiddleston and Hemsworth are absolutely so much fun to watch, no matter what the situation. I think we all have a lot to look forward to when Thor: The Dark World hits theatres on November 8th!

Have We Seen The End of Pepper Potts in Marvel Movies?

The character of Pepper Potts (played by Gwyneth Paltrow) had a rather slow beginning in 2008's Iron Man - she was a strong personality and a decision maker in the movie, she was still in the 'damsel in distress role'. The character concept didn't change much in the second installment, 2010's Iron Man 2.

While she made a brief and rather comical appearance in 2012's The Avengers, it wasn't until 2013's Iron Man 3 that Potts put on her ass kicking shoes. WARNING: Iron Man 3 SPOILERS AHEAD.
.
.
.
.
.
.
In the middle of Iron Man 3, the Mandarin attacks Tony Stark's house with Stark and Potts still inside - Pepper ends up wearing the new automated armor Tony had been working on (for those of you familiar with the comic books, you'll know that Potts had her own armor and was known as Rescue). Near the end of the movie, she was infected with the Extremis virus and had seemingly perished in a fall at the shipping yard. Because of the Extremis, she survived and laid down an ass kicking, saving Tony and saving the day.

But could that be the end of Pepper Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Gwyneth Paltrow recently spoke with HITFIX and said she hasn't got a phone call from Marvel yet.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd love to see more of tough chick Potts in the MCU. And maybe now that Paltrow knows the name of the next Avengers movie she'll be getting a call.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theatres on May 1st, 2015.

Agent Phil Coulson is Back and More Bad Ass Than Ever!

The moment he first appeared in 2008's 'Iron Man', Agent Phil Coulson (played by Clark Gregg) won the hearts of fans around the world. And when fans rushed to theatres to see 'The Avengers' last year, those same hearts were crushed when the movies big baddie Loki killed him on the helicarrier.

Or so we thought.

When the folks at Marvel announced that they'd be creating a new show called 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' and that our beloved Phil Coulson was the star, so many heads were scratched. Because what? How? Why? Literally, so many questions.

The premiere of 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' is only two weeks away, and we have been given a look at what we can expect from the series, as told by Clark Gregg himself! Check it out!

The show looks awesome. 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' will premiere at 8pm EST on ABC/CTV on September 24th.
