Charlie Hunnam Drops 'Fifty Shades!'

Some fans of the Fifty Shades book series were disappointed to learn today that Sons Of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam, has dropped the film project.

In the official statement from Universal Studios and Focus Features:

“The filmmakers of Fifty Shades Of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

Dakota Johnson will still play the ever coveted role of Anastasia Steele.

As disappointed as a lot of people are in the change of plans, I couldn't agree more with the following statement Hunnam made in Entertainment Weekly recently: "There are so many fans of that book and I know that on the surface, I am probably not what everybody imagined."

I myself envisioned a more tall, dark, and handsome type for Christian Grey. And while Hunnam's looks are definitely more than acceptable, I never felt he matched the physical description of Christian Grey's character from the novel series. Evidently, a lot of other fans agree with me, some even petitioned to have the role recast when the news first hit that Hunnam had landed the role. I guess said fans got their wish!

Fifty Shades of Grey was first published in 2011 and quickly became a worldwide spectacle, selling over 70 million copies of the novel series. It has become the fastest selling paper back of all time even outshining the previous record held by the Harry Potter series.

Who do you think will replace Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey?

How It Should Have Ended: Star Trek Edition

I don't know about anyone else but after seeing a movie in theatres I enjoy, I can't wait for the How It Should Have Ended video to be created and released. I previously did a best of Marvel article, and you can read it here.

The folks at HISHE have done it again, this time with the second instalment in the Star Trek reboot franchise, Star Trek Into Darkness.

They're always hilarious, because their true. The Khan scene made me laugh so hard! This is the second HISHE for Star Trek, the first was for the 2009 movie.

I love that ending. If you find yourself with some free time, check out all the videos on the HISHE channel. You will thank yourself for a long time!

Samuel L. Jackson: Elizabeth Olsen IS Scarlet Witch

For those of you who may have been lucky enough to catch this week episode of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, you may have noticed a familiar face show up at the end...the one and only Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson.

Sammy L. just recently chatted with the Wall Street Journal about his cameo, and when asked about when production is set to begin on Avengers: Age of Ultron, pretty much confirmed the rumours we've been hearing surrounding the casting of the Scarlet Witch:
“I don’t think we begin shooting before March of next year. I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen [who will play the Scarlet Witch], but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.”

Next to an official Marvel confirmation, Olsen seems to have a lock on the role of  Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlet Witch. It has previously been confirmed that Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be playing Pietro Maximoff, also known as Quicksilver.

Marvel has also hinted that we may see more cameos in AoS, which should continue to bring back fan boys and girls every week. I know I'll be back!!

You can watch Agents of SHIELD Tuesdays at 8pm EST on ABC/CTV. Avengers: Age of Ultron will hit theatres on May 1st, 2015.

Robert Carlyle talks Trainspotting 2 and release

For anyone who's had an adventure diving into a grimy pub toilet or have babies walking around on your ceiling, you're probably a drugged out crazy person...or you've watched Trainspotting.

And Geeks By Day has spoken to an inside source that has stated that Trainspotting 2 will be moving ahead with production.

While speaking with Robert Carlyle, who is in Vancouver filming for the third season of Once Upon A Time,  Geeks By Day co-founder Casey Chourney confirmed with Carlyle that the film is moving towards production and that Danny Boyle is working away on the script and all actors, including Carlyle, are ready to rejoin the cast:

"Yes, yes I can confirm there is [a second film], Danny is working on the script right now and the whole cast will be back. Should be out in 2016."

The assumption is that the second film will follow the story line of Irvine Welsh's follow up novel Porno.

Geeks By Day will continue to keep you updated with all Trainspotting 2 updates.

First Pictures of Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing

Benedict Cumberbatch is a busy guy these days. Between movies, television, voice work and the occasional stage performance, he seems to be everywhere. Having recently wrapped production on series three of Sherlock, he's moved on to his next project.

Many of you may have never heard of Alan Turing before, but he's a hugely important historical figure. In a nutshell, he was a mathematician who worked with the British government during World War II, discovering the cyphers for the German Enigma machine. He was also a gay man (homosexual acts were illegal in England at that time) - he was discovered to have taken part in them and was prosecuted; a few years later he committed suicide by taking cyanide.

Cumberbatch will be playing Turing in the upcoming film The Imitation Game, and now thanks to our friends at Buzzfeed, we have our first look.

And here's a look at what Alan Turing looked like:

The Imitation Game will hit theatres sometime in 2014. You can see Cumberbatch in another bio-pic The Fifth Estate which is out on October 18th.

Could We Be Seeing More of Agent Peggy Carter?

Agent Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell) first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger, and quickly won over fans with her no nonsense, ass kicking attitude (remember when she shot at Steve after she caught him with a lady? Exactly).

While her character was pretty much eliminated from any kind of future in future Marvel movies, she did appear in her very own one-shot (check it out below).

But could she be making an appearance on TV?

The folks at Empire have reason to believe that Marvel Studios is in fact looking at the logistics of bringing Agent Carter back in her very own show. They report that the premise of the show may pick up where the one shot left off, and would include much more of the same ass kicking.

I'm 1000% in favour of this. We'll keep our ears open for any information!

Meanwhile, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D will premiere this Tuesday at 8pm EST on ABC/CTV!

Hiddleston and Hemsworth Give Interview on Disney Channel, Tease Awesomess

We're less than 50 days away from the North American release of Thor: The Dark World, and Marvel/ Disney is beginning to ramp up its promotion.

Now that Disney owns Marvel Studios, we're getting more expose of the films through their multiple outlets (we've seen Marvel projects are D23 for the past two years). This amazing clip featuring Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth recently began airing on the Disney Channel. While no secrets are given away (obviously), it's still great!

Hiddleston and Hemsworth are absolutely so much fun to watch, no matter what the situation. I think we all have a lot to look forward to when Thor: The Dark World hits theatres on November 8th!

Power Rangers 'dark and gritty' short film?

What started out as a good day just turned amazing.

ScreenRant recently did an interview with the reboot Mortal Kombat film director Kevin Tancharoen and its like he reached into my deepest dreams and fantasies and came out with the most amazing lump of brain goo ever.

Tancharoen wants to do a short film about the Power Rangers. Not only that, he wants to dig up the original cast and put them in a dark and gritty style short film.

I can't even begin to describe how epic this project would be.

Here's a snippet from the ScreenRant interview about Tancharoen's vision of this film:

Kevin Tancharoen: Zordon is dying and Red Ranger has to go find the Green Ranger, who’s now an MMA fighter, and the Yellow Ranger died in a car accident and they all have to reunite together. You know, just make it as dark as possible. I thought that would be really fun to do.
Screen Rant: That’s brilliant. I think you would set the Internet on fire.
KT: [Laughs] You open up with the Red Ranger doing MMA. I would want to go there and I think it would be a lot of fun.

If Tancharoen takes on this daunting task and not only puts it together but also makes it as amazing as I'm imagining (yes my standards are the absolutely highest of all geeks), he will be the king of geeks, king above J.J. Abrams even. You better believe I just said that.

What do you think? Can Tancharoen pull this off? Let us know in the comments below.
