Ben Affleck confirmed as new Batman

By: James Bowler

Variety reports today that Ben Affleck has been announced as the new Batman by WB Studios and Zack Snyder today, for the second installment of 'Man of Steel'.

The news of the Argo star/director comes quickly on the heels of the Batman/Superman team-up announcement from SDCC.

In the statement Snyder spoke about the balance Affleck would provide to the film:

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

Affleck will officially become the eighth actor to portrait the Dark Knight on screen.

The yet untitled Man of Steel second film featuring Batman and Superman is slated to hit theaters July 17, 2015.
