Emmerich teases Stargate reboot

By: James Bowler

Roland Emmerich has definitely been making waves in the sci-fi world this year after announcing his intention to continue the Independence Day franchise into a possible triology.

At the time of that announcement Emmerich had also teased he was planning on working on another sci-fi project.

Well it seems that, that second project was a revisit to another Emmerich classic, Stargate.

But while ID4 will move onto two and three, Emmerich is stating he plans on completely revamping the Stargate series in order to follow through with the trilogy he had originally planned for the story, but never came to fruition.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Emmerich had this to say about reviving the franchise:

"I originally wanted to make it a trilogy. Now, after all this time, I couldn't do a trilogy anymore. Because the actors look totally different. That would not work. We are talking...We went to MGM, who has the rights, and we proposed to do a sequel, but as a reboot. We want to reboot it as a movie, and then do three parts. And that's what we're doing right now. Pretty soon, we are going to have to look for a writer and star."

And Stargate has proven to be a viable source of continued entertainment with Stargate: SG1, Stargate Atlantis and this geek's favourite series, Stargate Universe (sadly ended before it could really move into a solid storyline).

So with this continued interest by fans, Emmerich may have something here.

And since it is his original movie and his hand was in production of the three TV series, it stands to reason that he would be the perfect person to revive the original film and breath new life into the franchise.

So I put it to you Stargate fans, do you think this is a positive move for the Stargate franchise? Or is Emmerich beating a dead horse?
