As we’ve seen so far since the release of the brand new Wii U we haven’t had a lot of titles that actually spark our interest until now,
I'm going to review the newly released and much anticipated Pikmin 3 for the Wii U.
Pikmin 3 was released Aug 4, and since has been a big hit and really the only title worthy of playing on this system to date.
More the 10 years has passed since we've seen a Pikmin title, since the release of Pikmin on the Gamecube in 2001, and the Pikmin 2 release in 2004. We were also graced with Pikmin 1 and 2 rehashes that were released on the Wii, but for the first time Shigeru Miyamoto brought us a brand new title that we’ve all been waiting so patiently for.
So I guess you're wondering how this title stands up from previous games. Quite well, in fact it may be the best yet. It seems they actually took some time and fixed some things from the classics to make this game easier to control and play. From the nice smooth 1080p graphics to the easy use of the Wii U gamepad this game couldn’t be better (well it could but hey). The gamepad itself makes it possible to call your Pikmin from far away and pinpoint exactly where you want to throw your Pikmin which was lacking in the original; plus camera angles are a lot better.
Also the gamepad has a detailed map on-screen to help navigate the beautiful levels. You can also use the pro controller and the Wii controller and nunchuk but so far the gamepad seems the best.
Now with three playable characters giving commands, getting jobs done is easier than ever. Your mission in the game is to find a food source for your planet by bringing the seeds from fruits back, and to survive you also have to make juice from the fruit you collect adding a little challenge to the game to not run out of juice.
As you head to the planet you crash land and your three companions are separated in a world filled with creatures called Pikmin. While trying to find your friends you must use the Pikmin to do your work like building bridges, breaking walls and fighting enemies.
You must also collect fruit and reproduce more Pikmin to help you.
There are now five Pikmin types to choose from, each with their own cool abilities, two of which are brand new to the series the winged Pikmin and rock Pikmin.
Red Pikmin- fire resistant, great fighters
Blue Pikmin- can go in water, weak fighters
Yellow Pikmin- resistant to electricity, can be thrown higher the others
Winged Pikmin- can attack flying creatures and carry objects over areas
Rock Pikmin- can smash glass walls and stun enemies when thrown at them
You don’t have a set time that you need to complete the game by, just a recommended one. So take your time and really enjoy the rich environment of this game and get as much stuff as you can, you may even see some familiar faces from past games.
This game is very much a strategic title and takes time to master if you haven’t played it before. 13 minute-long days can go quick and you need every second to get jobs done and get your Pikmin to safety before the end of the day. Thank God they added a redo day to this as I'm sure it will come in handy.
After all this and playing the game I give it a generous 9 out of 10 because, let's be honest, no game deserves a 10. They can always be better and usually have a few flaws. But I'm glad to finally be playing this and look forward to more great titles to be released.
