A look at Arrow season 2

By: Matthew Blair

Filming may have just began for the CW's Arrow "season 2" but fans are already gleaming with excitement.  When the first season wrapped up, fans were under the impression the universe of "Arrow" had no super powers, and would be much like Christopher Nolans "Dark Knight" trilogy, but all of that is about to change. A few weeks ago the CW announced its plan for a spin-off series for famous DC hero "The Flash."
According to IGN, CW president Mark Pedowitz said they'll be introducing a recurring character on Arrow, and an origin story for Dr. Barry Allen, who DC fans know as The Flash. Allen will only be in a few episodes, episode 8, 9 and 20. While making only a few appearances, fans need to remember it's an origin story for his own TV show. Arrow co-creator/executive producer Greg Berlanti told IGN that the hope with Barry Allen is to start introducing powers into Starling City.

There hasn't been talk of who is going to be playing the speedy hero, but fans can at least be excited about the potential cross over into the much anticipated Justice League film. If DC plays their cards right, they'll be a big competitor for Marvel, who's new TV series Agents Of Shield premiers in September. Marvel has already been the super power of super hero movies over the last 5 years, with independent movies such as Thor, Ironman and Captain America, not to mention the Avengers and Avengers 2. Marvel has a huge head start as the last big movie from DC was the Dark Knight trilogy, which has already been announced is done and over with and won't have any connections to future DC movies.

Arrow could be the starting ground where Justice League members can make appearances and debuts, instead of using millions of dollars to make single movies. With Man Of Steel already solidified as the superman who will be in DC's JL movie, and the announcement of Batman being added into Man Of Steel 2, could be a perfect opportunity to make references to the events of Metropolis. Oliver Queen, (Arrow) and Bruce Wayne (Batman) are both billionaires and we could see a relationship between them in the TV show. while Batman or Bruce Wayne don't need to make an appearances, references to the characters will be enough to make fans smile.

Not only has Flash already been confirmed for Arrow season 2, The Black Canary will also be making her debut. While fans speculated as to whether they would do Black Canary in a non power universe, they can now rest peacefully knowing with the addition of powers, we will hear the famous "Canary Cry." More exciting rumors coming out of Arrow season 2, is a huge leaked rumor by comicbookmovie.com that Season 2 episode 5 will be titled "The Demon's Head." Most comic book fans know that phrase quite well, as it is the English translation to famous Batman villain “Ra’s Al Ghul.”

We will also see other DC characters, including a possible debut of the famous "Red Arrow." We seen teases in Arrow season 1 that Roy Harper will become the hooded crusader after being saved by Green Arrow. Tvline.com has also confirmed that Bex Taylor-Klaus, the breakout star of The Killing‘s has been cast for the roll of "Sin." Sin is described as "a wayward youth" who is "befriended by the Black Canary." She also has a tie in with Roy Harper. Most fans see this casting as a surprise, since most know her as a child in the care of Black Canary, but this "Sin" is an older version.

Among all the additional characters, Manu Bennett who played Slade Wilson during the first season flash backs was promoted to series regular. This leads to much speculation that Slayd will become the villain known as "Deathstroke." Whether or not we will see Deathstroke show up in Starling City, or if it means we will see Slayd every episode during flashbacks is still unknown. Deathstoke made a brief appearance in season 1 as a former friend and partner of Slayd.

Needless to say Arrow season 2 is one show DC fans do not want to miss. Season 2 picks up 5 months after the events that took place in the season finale, and premiers Wednesday October 9th.
